Radiant Snow-Melt (RSM) Systems
Radiant Snow-Melt (RSM) Systems usually require a higher flow-rate than radiant floor heat systems. High BTU boilers, 1-1/2" full-flow manifolds and 3/4" tubing are used in most RSM systems to achieve the high BTU/Sq. Ft. required to melt snow. Type I RSM Systems (residential) may allow some snow and ice build-up during extreme weather conditions. Type I RSM systems generally require a minimum 80 - 125 BTU's per square foot.
Type II RSM Systems (commercial) are used in high traffic sidewalks, building entrances and steps. These areas are kept free of snow and ice, yet may remain wet. Type II RSM system heat input capacities range from 120 to 250 BTU's per square foot.
Type III RSM Systems (industrial) are used when slabs must not only be free of snow and ice, but are preferably dry. Common applications of Type III RSM systems include hospital emergency entrances, toll booths and shipping areas. Input heat capacities may go as high as 450 BTU's per square foot.
RSM Manifold Assemblies
Radiant Snow-Melt (RSM) Manifolds are constructed with 1-1/2" copper chambers and 3/4" brazed copper ports on 3" centers. The open ends are standard copper tubing size for sweating standard copper fittings (threaded adapters or caps). The 3/4" copper ports are sized to accept balancing and isolation valves (sweat connection). Brass balancing and loop isolation valves include an integral female sweat connection (port end) and compression fitting (tubing connection). Sweat assembly required.
