HRGP1assy Zone Pump Kit for ProRadiant SS HRFH Systems

Installation Tips

The HRGP1 Zone Pump needs to be secured firmly by the piping plumbed to both ends of the pump (within 2 inches of the pump flanges).

MountainView Supply, Inc. is very proud to offer Viega ProRadiant SS Manifolds.  As you can tell when you first open the box of your new manifold, it is an incredibly high quality work of engineering.  With flow meters and balancing valves on every loop, thermometers on both the supply and return manifold, air bleeders, purge valves, an auto-air vent, the ability to reconfigure the manifolds to be mounted in literally any position, and the ability to add additional loops with the available expansion kit, ProRadiant SS manifolds are incredibly versatile too!  Before installing your new manifold, please read this installation tips sheet and the installation instruction sheet included with your manifold, thoroughly.

Viega ProRadiant SS manifolds come factory assembled with the supply manifold (with red capped flow meters) mounted to the lower (elevated) position of the mounting bracket and the return manifold (with blue caps) in the upper position.  In this configuration, the Pex loops attach to the bottom of the manifolds and the supply and return piping connects to the right side of the manifolds.  If you require a different configuration, remove the (2) screws securing the mounting straps of both manifolds, reposition the manifolds to the new configuration then re-install the mounting straps and tighten the screws.  While the manifolds will operate in any position, we recommend that the supply manifold be mounted on the elevated portion of the mounting bracket (to allow sufficient clearance between the mounting base and the pump).  If your configuration has the air bleeder on the bottom and the purge valve on the top, simply remove them and re-install them in the correct positions (air bleeder needs to be on top, purge valve needs to be on the bottom).  Same issue with the thermometer, if your configuration has the thermometer hidden between the manifold and the mounting base, move it to the front of the manifold and relocate the plug to the back.

With the Viega ProRadiant SS manifold mounted firmly to a plywood base, install the 4" x 1" MPT black pipe nipple (#HRMVSPN4) to the red handle ball-valve on the supply manifold using thread sealant tape (#MVSTEF01).  Install the black 1” pump flange (#HRGFLG5) to the other end of the nipple using thread sealant tape.  Secure the center of the black 1” pipe nipple to the plywood base with a copper clevis bracket (#HRMVSPB4).

The opposing brass ¾” pump flange (#HRFLG4BV) needs to be plumbed to the ¾” copper sweat union fitting of the “M” (Mix) outlet of the Thermostatic Mixing Valve with at least 4” of copper piping and a ¾” MPT sweat adapter (this creates the TMV piping/brass pump flange assembly).  Leaving approximately 6-7/8” between the pump flanges (the approx. width of the HRGP1 zone pump including the flange gaskets), mount the TMV piping/brass pump flange assembly (with the fill port pointed upward, if applicable) to the plywood base with a copper clevis bracket and a CLI4 ¾”insert.

Once the copper clevis brackets are installed to the piping and flanges on both sides of the pump, you may install the HRGP1 zone pump to the pump flanges with (4) bolts w/nuts and the flange gaskets (included with the pump).  After the HRGP1 zone pump is installed, plumb the zone supply/return piping to the return manifold and the TMV, and plumb to the main supply/return loop.

Your HRGP circulator pump is equipped with a 3-speed switch.  Select the slowest speed required to give satisfactory performance.  Generally, the slowest speed is adequate for radiant systems with up to 900 ln. ft. of tubing (up to 3 loops); medium is for 900 ln ft. to 1500 ln. ft of tubing (3 to 5 loops) and high is for radiant systems with more than 1500 ln. ft. of tubing (over 5 loops).

Please Note:  All electrical wiring must be preformed by a licensed electrician in accordance with all NEC and local electrical codes.  All plumbing must be preformed by a licensed plumber in accordance with all applicable plumbing codes.  An expansion tank is required for hydronic radiant heat systems.
